EGL expanding to the UK

Dietikon, 27 May 2009

EGL (Elektrizitäts-Gesellschaft Laufenburg AG) is expanding its market presence in Europe opening a new trading hub in the United Kingdom (UK) having recently established the subsidiary EGL UK in London.

EGL is strengthening its position as a pan-European energy trader. In addition to its trading hubs in Switzerland, Spain, Italy and Norway and its trading activities in Eastern Europe the company is creating a trading hub in UK. The subsidiary, EGL UK, has established an office in Threadneedle Street, London.

Having already been active in the UK market for several years, EGL recognises the opportunities provided in the UK and the value in having local expertise in its local market to exploit them.

EGL's market entrance will initially be trading led. In a second phase an origination business will be established to meet the complex market requirements.

The setting up of the new EGL UK trading hub will be managed by Nick Taylor. He joined the company earlier this year and led the provisions for EGL UK's start-up. Nick Taylor comes with thirteen years of industry experience having most recently worked at UBS and EDF setting up their trading desks. He has been trading multiple energy commodities in multiple European markets.
